Like any good computer nerd my current desktop pc is a proper Ship of Theseus.
I’ve been building and modifying desktop computers since I was a kid. The first machine that I had to myself was a (very) used late-90’s era IBM prebuilt, running Windows 2000. A few years later my parents bought me my first new machine, a 2005 Sony VAIO. I remember being overjoyed by its ability to play 3D games, an ability that my previous machine lacked almost entirely.
I built my first fully-custom computer around 2008, with my own money but also a lot of help from my parents. It had a powerful Intel Q6600 processor, and an NVIDIA 8800GT gpu. For the first time I could play all the games I read about in the [magazines] (remember those?).
